HELLS CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION HEADQUARTERS PLANNING OFFICE & VISITORS CENTER
Wallowa-Whitman National Forest
Willowa, Idaho

TIME OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES:

Brief Description: The Willowa-Whitman National Forest commissioned the design of a new Hells Canyon National Recreation Area visitors Center in Riggins. The project was comprised of a new visitor’s center, area headquarters and site improvements including parking areas and municipal services including water and sewer to be connected to the City of Riggins infrastructure.

B & A Engineers, Inc. designed the grading and parking areas in conjunction with Beck & Baird, landscape architects. Of particular interest was the challenge of designing an extension of water and sewer service to the site over a considerable distance in a very restricted corridor along Highway 95. This required careful coordination and cooperation with adjoining landowners, the Idaho Transportation Department and the City of Riggins.
